Full transparency: we stock several of the products below, including Citadel and Battlefoam — links are included where relevant. We've done our best to give you an honest picture of each system, because a bad recommendation doesn't help anyone. We've been at this since 2007. KR Multicase

Budget Pick

KR has been around long enough to have a loyal following, and for good reason. Their system is built around cheap, swappable KLC cardboard inserts that slide into larger Kaiser bags — meaning you can pull out your Orks and drop in your Skaven without buying a new bag each time.

The soft blue foam is genuinely gentle on paint jobs, and the price per tray is very competitive. Their selection is massive.

The downsides are real, though. It's still cardboard — damp garages and car boots aren't its friend. And if you've never ordered from them before, their website can be a bit of a maze.

The aluminium cases are top quality and sturdy, but can be heavy.

Good for: Collectors with multiple armies who want flexibility on a budget.

Citadel (Games Workshop)

Citadel Beginner Friendly

The Crusade and Battle cases use a "zig-zag" channel foam that compresses around whatever you put in it — no measuring or plucking required. For someone who just wants to pack quickly after a game, that's genuinely useful.

The hard plastic shell is tough — it can take a knock in a car boot without drama. The trade-off is that channel foam isn't space-efficient, and the compression can stress very delicate, spindly parts over time.

Good for: Newer hobbyists who want something simple, or anyone who travels with models frequently.

Battlefoam

Tournament Grade

Battlefoam has a strong reputation in the tournament scene, particularly in the US, and their cases do feel built to last. The pre-cut foam trays are well-designed for specific army types, and the hard-shell options travel well.

The main friction point for UK hobbyists is cost — they sit at the premium end of the market — and availability can be patchier this side of the Atlantic than it once was.

Good for: Serious tournament players who want army-specific foam and don't mind paying for it.

Feldherr

Entry Level

Feldherr is often the first recommendation when someone asks for a budget-friendly entry into proper foam storage. The quality is solid for standard infantry, trays are reasonably priced, and they cover a wide range of sizes.

If you want reliable, affordable storage for rank-and-file models, Feldherr does the job.

Good for: Hobbyists on a budget, storing standard infantry.

Jucoci

Display Specialist

If your priority is display rather than transport — think painted centrepieces or competition models — Jucoci's magnetic metal trays are worth a look. Models sit on the tray without any foam contact at all, which eliminates the risk of rubbing or pressure marks.

It's a niche solution, but for what it does, it does it well.

Good for: Display models, showcasing painted work, zero-contact storage.

Tabletop Tyrant — Our Top Pick

Designed and manufactured in Leicester, Tabletop Tyrant has become the case we recommend most consistently to UK hobbyists — and not just because they're local. A few things genuinely stand out:

  • Visual Case Builder — drag and drop your units into a visual layout and see exactly what fits before you buy. Sounds small, removes a real frustration.
  • Better materials — the Defender and Backpack ranges use water-resistant fabrics and reinforced plastic framing, not standard cardboard.
  • Cross-compatible — Tyrant trays fit inside older GW cases, so you can upgrade your foam without replacing your shell.
  • Really Useful Box support — specifically designed to work with RUBs for magnetised storage fans.
  • UKGE Double Winner — the Backpack took both the Judges Award and People's Choice Award for Best Accessory at UK Games Expo.
  • Highest rated in category — 4.9/5 on Trustpilot from verified buyers.

Good for: The majority of hobbyists who want reliable, weather-resistant transport to the club without overpaying.

Our Verdict

There's no single answer that fits everyone:

  • Flying abroad with models? A hard-shell Citadel or Battlefoam case is worth the investment.
  • Big collection, multiple armies? KR Multicase's modularity makes a lot of sense.
  • Display-only models? Jucoci removes the foam-contact problem entirely.
  • Most other situations? Tabletop Tyrant. Easy website, solid build quality, UK-made with no import delays or costs.
